Wake Up Club: What’s in YOUR cup?

Wake Up Club Banner

Now this isn’t barring tea or cocoa enthusiasts, as we all know that there are many among us. So tell me what are you drinking? Why did you pick that today? Any special thoughts on your hot beverage of choice? You can do this one every day, week, or whenever you get up and have a hankering for something steamy.. (get your mind out of the gutter LOL).

Today I have Vanilla, Caramel, and Kahlua coffee with a van/caramel creamer. I chose it because I adore the taste of caramel. I also have decaf cause Lord KNOWS I can’t have caffeine today.

Turkey Hill Maple Coffee from Canada

P1030317 (by SockMopTart)My buddy Brenna came over yesterday and gave me some items directly from her trip to Canada. One of them was the Turkey Hill Maple Coffee that I tried today. It’s 100% maple syrup in 100% Columbian coffee. You can’t smell the maple, you can see it in the grounds. Even when it’s brewed, you cannot smell the maple. It smells more like burnt coffee. The first taste you get is FULL BODIED Columbian coffee… the after taste of maple only shows up in the back of your throat after you have sipped a few times. I am undecided as to what to think on this, but the Columbian coffee of it is rather bitter. Overall, not my cup of tea…but it was fun to try something so different.

Blueberry Coffee

Blueberry coffee leaves much to be desired. I mean, wow. It smells just like a blueberry. When it is brewed, the smell dies a bit. When you taste it, it’s not the best tasting thing in the world. I mean, blueberry + coffee = eh. It isn’t so bad that I would spit it out, but it’s not so good that I would brew another cup any time in the future.

White Chocolate Cocoa

White Blizzard Cocoa @ BocaJavaI got my cocoas in the mail yesterday. One is a replenishment for the flavor I already own and love. The other was a brand new flavor *to me*. It’s white chocolate cocoa. You can watch the milk go creamy white as you mix the powder in. The taste is light, almost fluffy. It is a nice mild alternative to the robust chocolate you normally get in cocoa. If you would like to buy some of this cocoa, make sure to click the BocaJava link in my sidebar. Let them know I sent you (kingzjewel [at] yahoo [dot] com)

I have a new coffee to try, too. That is an upcoming review:D

Seasonal frappucino: Dark chocolate peppermint mocha

Different trek to the store, but same type of discovery. I was at our small local convenience store when I found this flavor of frappucino. I am trying it as I type. It’s not bad, but not great. You can state all of the chocolate, little mint, and be reminded of watery cocoa. I don’t think I will be buying more of this one. I am a bit disappointed in Starbucks today.

Seasonal creamers

Just last week I picked up two seasonal creamers from the local grocer. One is vanilla caramel brownie and the other is chocolate mint truffle. In coffee or cocoa, they are both divine. I added the mint chocolate to my mint chocolate cocoa and thought I would die of ecstasy. It was so fresh and chocolaty at the same time. It was like drinking an Andes mint. Delicious. As for coffee, I have only added them to non-flavored coffee as of yet. I know that the vanilla will probably do well in my kahlua caramel coffee. Just two flavors to look out for in the store!

Food Match: Ceylon tea

Today’s Food Match:

MMMM Ceylon tea is a perfect match for orange cranberry pound cake. The sweetness of each compliments each other just right. The orange sits well on the palette while the Ceylon drenches your senses. The cranberry follows up with an invigorating kick.

Don’t freeze your coffee

I was looking for the best way to store coffee. The age old way is to freeze it, but I have just read that you should not freeze your coffee. It stands to reason, that the best way to store it is dry and cool, away from light. I have successfully kept coffee grounds fresh this way for about a year and a half. That’s right, the grounds didn’t get that over ripe smell until a year and a half later. I thought it was interesting.

The funny part is, the only reason I was keeping my coffee in a dark cabinet was due to the lack of room in my freezer to house all my blends. My mother has kept her coffees in the freezer for as long as I can remember. I always thought that her grounds kept themselves pretty fresh in there. Who would have thought that this was not the ideal way to store your coffee?

Win $25 from Just Not Martha Herbal Contest

My friend Retta at Just Not Martha is holding a contest for a gift certificate to Mountain Rose Herbs.

The things I would like to try herbal, obviously:

TEA!

The more teas I try, the more I have to write about here. Also, aromatherapy oils are good as they fit hand in hand with tea, I think. They are both used to relax or invigorate the senses. Sometimes you just want to inhale the sweet soft calming smell of lavender. I would also like to try different herbs that will spice up my cooking. It’s pretty cool to just get into new things, especially herbal things. I think that herbs and spices are great for overall health and well being, not just something to please the senses.

I hope she picks me. I need some lavender like you wouldn’t even believe!
